What to Expect When You Switch from Smoking to Vaping

The decision to switch from smoking analog cigarettes to vaping is life-changing. While the startup costs can set you back anywhere from about $50 to several hundred dollars for a dry herb vaporizer, the money savings will begin to become apparent after a few weeks if you were a regular smoker. Not only that, but you should begin feeling better.

While long-term studies on the health benefits and risks of vaping are still being performed, there is data to suggest that switching from smoking to vaping may be healthier. Public health of England released a study that concluded that e-cigarettes are 95% safer than analog cigarettes. The same study also concluded that switching to vaping can help smokers to kick the habit.

Giving credence to the Great Britain study is another study that looked at 181 current or former smokers. The study asked that the participants provide breath, urine, and saliva samples for analysis. The smokers had more carcinogens in their systems than those who had switched to vaping.

When it comes to cannabis, vaporizing might just be better than regular means of smoking. When you use a flame to provide heat directly to the cannabis, many of the beneficial cannabinoids and terpenes are carbonized. Not only does this release harmful carcinogens and other toxins, but it also prevents you from reaping the benefits of those cannabinoids.

When you decide to drop smoking and pick up vaping, you might notice some startling changes and symptoms. Never fear, they’re usually only temporary and actually mean that your body is clearing itself of the toxins that have built up from that cigarette smoke.

That Cigarette Craving Will Hang Around Nicotine is not the only compound or chemical that tobacco companies put in cigarettes. So, even if you choose a vape juice with nicotine you’ll still crave a cigarette for the first few weeks. The key is to stick with it and soon, those cravings will pass.

Your Lungs Will Rebel Smoking is harsh on the lungs. While that may sound like a “no duh” statement, think about the tar bath that your bronchiole and your alveoli have been taking ever since you started up the habit. Your lungs want to get all of that ick out, and for some, this can mean a lot of coughing. Increase your water intake to help process those toxins and stick with it. Eventually, the coughing will subside.

Headaches and Shaking: More Withdrawal Symptoms Your body absorbs nicotine that is vaporized differently than it does nicotine that is combusted. Therefore, getting the right nicotine percentage in your vape juice is essential. Depending on how many regular cigarettes you previously smoked, you might want to adjust the percentage up or down. Until you get the right mix, you may experience withdrawal symptoms such as headaches, shaking, irritability, and so on.

High on… Oxygen? Smoking decreases the amount of oxygen that’s getting to your brain and other parts of your body, even when you’re not smoking. Switching to vaping will cause the constriction of your blood vessels to loosen up, meaning more oxygen-rich blood flowing through your veins. This increased oxygen may cause you to begin to experience periods of dizziness, light-headedness, and sometimes, even euphoria. Don’t worry, this will pass soon.

Within just a few days of laying down those analog cigarettes and picking up a vape pen or a vape mod, you’ll probably notice that you’re feeling better. You’ll probably notice smells and tastes that were previously obscured. If you switched from your usual bowl or joint to a dry-herb vaporizer, you might notice that you’re getting the same feeling with less product. You may even experience fewer respiratory symptoms. After the health effects of feeling better, perhaps the best thing you will notice is the savings! After the initial investment for something like a vape pen, replaceable parts like cannabis oil cartridges, vape juice and coils cost less on average than a pack of cigarettes or an 1/8 ounce of cured flower. You’ll be glad you made the decision to switch!
